Computer and internet

Isis District State High School acknowledges the significance of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to the global community and identifies the need for students to be familiar with the range of ICT capabilities in order to enhance learning within curriculum and function within society as an active and productive citizen. We envisage a school community which effectively engages students in a learning process which is efficiently integrated with the use of ICTs.

The school maintains a range of ICT resources to support student learning using modern technology. These include (but are not restricted to):

  • several computer laboratories (ranging from 25 to 30 desktop computers)
  • some twenty desktop computers in the Resource Centre for student use during classes and at recess breaks
  • a number of smaller ‘pods of desktop computers (between six and 12 computers) adjacent to teaching areas for specialised computer curricula work
  • Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD) program (Year 10-12) that allows students to bring their own electronic device (laptop preferred) to school to allow them to access to the Department of Education internet and use modern technology to engage in the learning program of the school. Students participating in this program must comply with the requirements of the school Computer Use Agreement and the School Policy on the Use of Personal Technology Devices at School.
  • a pool of student laptops for student access as  required during subject lessons
  • wireless access to the Department of Education internet system throughout the scchool
  • data projectors in rooms being continually increased
  • peripheral devices such as scanners, data projectors and digital still or video cameras are also available to enhance the teaching and learning activities at our school.

All students (and their parents) should be familiar with the student computer use policy and agree to its conditions. This policy has been devised to ensure both the safety of our students as they use ICT resources and the security and proper functioning of the school network and equipment. It is necessary to agree to this policy before using the school ICT resources.

Students (and their parents) involved in the student laptop program should be familiar with the Student Laptop Charter and Student Laptop Agreement.
