year 8 peer skills

At the end of last term, fifteen of our Year 8 students participated in the two day Peer Skills Workshop. The workshop aimed to provide students with the confidence and skills they need to respond in the best possible way when a friend turns to them with a concern and/or problem. Research at Kids Helpline suggests that while many young people share their problems with their parents, often they first turn to their peers and friends.

The workshop trained students in communication and problem-solving skills, support strategies, as well as providing information about local support agencies.

The students will be supported by Ralph Thurlow (Chaplain) and Monique Anderson (School-based Youth Nurse) building on our positive and supportive school environment.
